What is Latinx?

Latinx is a non-gendered term used to describe someone who is from Latin America, instead of using latina/o. It has nothing to do with race, just origin of birth. This website, with time, will become a place for latinx people to discuss our personal experiences with non-binary genders and latin culture/ancestry, and how the two intersect. I want to learn from you to learn more about myself and vice versa!

I’m Cecilio, a 25 year old latin trans man from Toronto Canada. I’m a video artist, and will use this site to post my current raw videos that will be used in my upcoming documentary film latinX; an exploration of the intersections between my gender and cultural identities. I make performative self reflective documentaries (watch my videos to get an idea of what that means).

In my gender journey my cultural identity has become important to me. It was only in the past year that I’ve realized I’m a person of colour. I’m not just Canadian, my blood is from El Salvador, and I have no idea what that means.

I’m hoping to connect to the latin world! What does it mean to be latin? How do the rest of you queers out there grapple with your gender and your culture? What makes you feel latin? I’m on the journey of finding my truest self and I’m hoping to find some rad people to share experiences.

I’m excited to see how this project develops. I’m Canadian born with Latin roots (Costa Rica) and am proud to say that I am a pansexual cis female.

    Best wishes for your doc!
